Is Zoom! Teeth Whitening a Good Option for You?

25 Jan 2024

Here at Greenspoint Dental, we offer Zoom! Teeth Whitening, professional teeth whitening procedure that can make your teeth up to 8 shades whiter. There are both pros and cons to this procedure.

Here’s what you need to know about Zoom! Teeth whitening, to help you determine whether this is a good option for you.

Teeth Bleaching vs Teeth Whitening

By the Federal Drug Administration standards, the term “bleaching” applies only to products that can whiten teeth beyond their natural color. “Whitening” applies to the products that remove surface stains and restore teeth to their natural color.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening is technically a bleaching treatment because it can make your teeth up to 8 shades whiter, but it’s referred to as a whitening treatment.

The Procedure

A form of cosmetic dentistry, Zoom! Teeth Whitening is a fast and non-invasive procedure. Your dentist will help you choose the treatment that’s best for your teeth, including the intensity that will be used.

To begin, your lips and gums will be covered for protection. A dental hygienist or dentist will then apply a whitening gel to the surface of your teeth.

A light is then used to activate the hydrogen peroxide (the bleaching agent) and help the gel penetrate beneath the surface of your teeth.

The procedure will be repeated, generally a total of 3 times, to achieve the desired shade.

Pros and Cons

As with many other dental procedures, there are both pros and cons to the Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure.

Pros

One of the biggest pros of this system is the immediate result. You will immediately have a whiter smile when the procedure is done.

Another important benefit of the Zoom! system is that it’s all done at the dentist’s office by professionals. OTC kits may be harmful if you don’t follow the instructions, but our dental professionals know how to properly administer this treatment.

The gel is applied accurately to your teeth, to ensure a natural and cohesive look. Without dental expertise and experience, you may not be able to get the same look with an OTC kit.

Cons

Unfortunately, neither the Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure or OTC kits will adjust the shade of crowns, fillings, veneers, or implants.

There are patients of many dental offices who have reported sensitivity after receiving the Zoom! Treatment. The pores (or tubules) on your teeth are opened during the treatment so the gel can penetrate deep into your teeth.

Because this opens a pathway closer to the inside layer of your teeth, where your nerves are, Zoom! Teeth Whitening can cause sensitivity for a couple of days after the treatment.

If you have weak enamel or other dental issues, Zoom! Teeth Whitening may not be a good option for your dental health.

Whether or not you choose to improve the appearance of your smile with Zoom! Teeth Whitening, remember to brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day, and visit the dentist every six months for a professional dental cleaning.

SHORT ON TIME? WANT FAST RESULTS?

The ZOOM! procedure is normally performed in about an hour to an hour and a half. So, if you need a quick result, ZOOM! is right for you because you can get great results in just a single appointment.
