How to Treat Gingivitis

24 Oct 2013

Even though gingivitis is not a serious medical condition that needs surgery, it is a form of gum disease that needs to be treated. Millions of people have some sort of gum disease whether it is gingivitis or periodontal disease yet they aren’t taking the necessary steps to treat it. Gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease but luckily we can easily prevent that from happening by just improving our oral hygiene routine a bit.

Symptoms

If you go to the dentist regularly and get check-ups then you will be informed if you have gingivitis. Most of us would be able to tell if we had some sort of gum problem but usually we just shrug off bleeding gums as a sign of brushing too hard. Symptoms of gingivitis would include gums that are bleeding, swollen, or red. If you have a serious case of gingivitis or the beginning stages of periodontal disease you may experience teeth that are loose, severe bad breath, bite problems, or pus coming out of your gums.

Usually gingivitis is caused by bad oral hygiene, bad lifestyle habits like smoking or chewing tobacco, poor diet or a disease that makes it harder for your body to fight infections.

Treatment

gingivitisThis may astonish you, but treating gingivitis only takes a couple of things. First you need to get a professional cleaning to get your mouth as clean and healthy as possible. Then you just need to implement a good oral hygiene routine. This means brushing after you eat, before you go to bed and when you wake up. This also means you can’t skip out on flossing since gingivitis is a gum problem. Floss daily and rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash. Treating gingivitis is super easy and simple so make sure you are properly taking care of your teeth to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
